A Gift Fit for a Queen

In an article read not long ago called, The History of Valentine’s Day, I learned about one of the legends that started Valentine’s Day,

“In Great Britain, Valentine’s Day became popular to celebrate around the seventeenth century. By the middle of the eighteenth century, it was common for friends and lovers in all social classes to exchange small tokens of affection or handwritten notes. By the end of the eighteenth century, printed cards began to replace written letters due to improvements in printing technology. Ready-made cards were an easy way for people to express their emotions in a time when direct expression of one’s feelings was discouraged. Cheaper postage rates also contributed to an increase in the popularity of sending Valentine’s Day greetings. In the 1840s, Esther A. Howland began to sell the first mass-produced valentines in America. According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated one billion valentine cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year.”

Things have changed a bit over the years but, one thing that remains is the desire for special treatment on Valentine’s day! Now is the time to start thinking of a thoughtful way to show your spouse that you care for and appreciate them. Knowing the right thing to give your spouse depends on their “Love Language”. There is a total of five love languages and knowing which one that your spouse likes to receive can help you out this Valentine’s Day. For some it means giving something as simple as spending the day together, showing acts of kindness, words of affirmation or for others it means more tangible gifts!
