Do you hate house cleaning? Do you try to avoid it? Does it sometimes seem like an overwhelming task?

Well, in this article we’re going to show you that house cleaning really isn’t as bad as you might think, and give some tips for making it less overwhelming. You may even end up having fun doing it!

Cleaning Doesn't Have To Take Hours

Here are some tips for breaking cleaning down into easier, smaller chunks that don’t require a huge amount of time. They also help prevent having a major buildup or mess:

Set A Timer

Set a timer and clean for about 20 minutes daily, whatever you can get done in that amount of time.

Clean As You Go

This means cleaning up spills and messes as they happen, cleaning appliances when you’re done using them, etc.

One Touch Rule

Don’t just throw your jacket, briefcase, or purse down on the couch when you get home, put it away. This will save you an extra cleaning task later.

Full Hands Rule

If you’re in a room and notice something that doesn’t belong there, take it when you leave and put it where it goes. Then repeat if you find something in that place that doesn’t belong there. That way, you won’t leave a room empty-handed!

Follow A Cleaning Schedule

There are many schedules available online, or you can create one of your own. This prevents guessing what should be cleaned when, and makes sure everything gets done.

Prepare At Night For The Next Morning

This may mean running the dishwasher, setting out clothes for the next day, or pre-preparing meals or lunches for school/work or the next night’s dinner. This makes the morning routine so much easier!

Cleaning Can Be Fun

Now that you know how to make cleaning easier, here are some things that can actually make cleaning enjoyable and even fun!

Listen To Music

One of the easiest ways to make cleaning more fun is to add music! When you’re listening to music it can help you feel more motivated and it makes the cleaning time fly by! Get your cleaning groove on, have fun and get it done!

Find Your Cleaning Style

Everyone has their own style and way they like to clean. Find your style and what works best for you, your situation and your family. Set up a routine that your comfortable with, and stick with it. Including which tasks to do first, which rooms, and which products and tools work best.

Clean With A Friend

Maybe you have a friend who might be willing to do a “You help me clean my house, I’ll help you clean yours”, kind of thing. This lessens the work and makes cleaning more fun.

Use Cleaning To Take A Mental Break

Having a stressful time at work? Cleaning gives you time to think. You can think of strategies, how to solve a problem, or maybe how to deal with a bothersome coworker or boss.

Or maybe, it can give you time to let go of stresses and pressures of the day. Maybe you just need time to get your mind off of work or stresses, and think about something else. Cleaning can help you do that too.

Get The Family Involved

Cleaning is so much easier when the whole family is involved. This can mean everyone cleans up their own messes, and spills, kids learn to make their own beds, clean their own rooms, and put away their own toys and personal items when they’re done using them.

Another great way to get the family involved is to have a family cleaning day. Everyone does chores and cleaning together. This definitely cuts down on the amount of time involved, and makes cleaning more fun. Families play together and work together too! Make it more fun by adding music, or even making cleaning a game for younger ones, just like Mary Poppins did! OK, maybe not JUST like Mary Poppins!
